I liked how it touched on the German civilian side of what the Nazis were doing. Was Winslet a scapegoat since everyone knew what was going on and didn't want to admit it? What to do with the $.50 and a cigarette that she left the victim? Heavy stuff. It did answer 1 question though - Winslet is going to look Gollum-esque a few years down the line (nothing like your sex goddess, H. Mirren) The Reader wasn’t that bad.
